Airbus will build in Getafe the Ariane 6 rocket

In December 22, 2016

A specific factory will be built at the Airbus facilities in Getafe, in order to fabricate the Ariane 6. This has been confirmed exclusively by Fly News magazine, although the aeronautical group will not make it official until the beginning of 2017.

Spain will have 5% stake in the spacecraft. This percentage almost doubles the one with the Ariane 5 that was 2.7%. This is a significant increase that means more jobs and more investments, as claimed for Fly News the head of Airbus Spain Space Department, José Guillamón.

If all goes well, the construction of the building will begin in June of 2017 and will last two years at the most. Until then, work will continue at the current Airbus Defense & Space headquarters, located in Barajas. It will be necessary to wait a little to see the future facilities making the largest structure of the Ariane 6, a cylinder of considerable proportions: more than a ton of weight, 6.2 meters in height and 5.4 meters in diameter. This immense ring will be the interface that joins the first stage of the rocket with the second one.
